Micro-vations: An Introduction

Of course it makes sense to discuss home offices during a pandemic in 2020 when many of you are working from home, but the real reason I’m bringing it up now is that there’s a trend of many workplaces wanting to have their employees work from home permanently going forward. Maybe skipping that commute and replacing it with a Peloton class or a brisk walk has you energized to tackle your make-shift home office.

Today, we’re starting a series in our Blog called Micro-vations: a mini (or micro) renovation of your space. These projects are meant to showcase what you can do with a limited budget, time, and resources.

Around mid-April, we saw such an increase in home improvement projects in America, that shortages and delays can be six to nine months for basics such as lighting fixtures, tile, and even specialty lumber. Step into any hardware store, and you’ll still find long lines just for a gallon of paint to match your grandmother’s beloved plaid sofa.

Aside from the DIY crowd, there are major shortages in craft and labor crews that handle the home renovation and additions business. Home building construction in general has seen its best year since 2005. So if you’re looking to add that master bedroom that you’ve always wanted, you can start planning now, but you may have to wait several months longer than normal after design drawings have been completed.

In the meantime, there’s still a LOT you can do to spruce up your living space. Let’s start with your workspace.
